Producer Q&A: Revenge Porn

Terry Stephens is a veteran producer of over 1500 scenes with a career spanning 20 years in the adult business working in a various areas from, producing, distribution, campaigns and more and is known in recent years for his work with UKAP the adult industry producers association
What is revenge porn?
The simplest way to say it is the distribution without consent via any medium of one or more people with the intention to cause emotional injury, usually inflicted by spurned ex partners hence the term revenge porn
What is the difference with revenge porn and normal porn sites?
Professional or amateur produced porn usually has a signed agreement between all concerned giving consent for the sexually explicit content to be sold via any medium, print, broadcast or online. This is usually backed up with a signed and dated release form with proof of ID to consolidate ownership of the content
How would a producer find themselves falling foul of revenge porn laws?
Not having the correct paperwork and word terminology on the release concerned. The kind of people who could fall foul of this are those who violate agreements with such as those who commission custom clips. Dont trade with other collectors. There are measures put in place to prevent those who commission clips to sign a terms and conditions as part of this arrangement.
What course of action is available to victims of revenge porn?
Theres a helpful article on this on Burn The Night Alternatively, if you need to speak to someone then there is the Revenge Porn Help Line Visit their site here https://revengepornhelpline.org.uk/
What kind of scenarios can you give as examples of revenge porn likely to happen in porn productions?
Anything involving trust being violated. Couples who make sexually explicit content could include those in a swinging lifestyle. It is usually the boyfriend/ girlfriend scenario and the problem is not exclusive to men. I've seen women ridiculing their ex partners without realising they are in violation of civil liberty laws.
Uploading content to a tube site is mass distribution. Normally you can contact the site via a report abuse button on the site and it wil be dealt with faily quickly but you dont know how many people have seen it or worse, copied it. Thats the problem. Once its been copied it could pop up on other tube sites and social media and linked back. The more it goes on the heavier the penalties depending on how much emotional stress has been caused. There are extreme cases of people committing suicide
Be careful of scam calls on Skype and chat rooms where the conversation leads to sharing images. So many people have been held to ransom. The person asking for the ransom is somewhere in the world doing this all day long.
The general rule would be, if you don't want to be seen in sexually compromising images on the internet then dont take them in the first place. We know people should observe rights of privacy but unfortunately we live in a world where people cannot be trusted
Another scenario is the fake profile advertising themselves online. This carries serious penalties and could lead to jail time. The worst offender Kevin Bolleart got 18 years in jail for deliberately putting images on his website and charging his victims to remove them, This might sound extreme but he went beyond revenge to extortion which is seriously frowned upon  but Hunter Moore who ran a revenge porn website got two and a half years. Its also worth bearing in mind these people are not pornographers or producers of adult content. They are criminals. It is not a crime to produce porn as long as you are doing it ethically and legally protect yourself doing it
Subtle versions of revenge porn could be readers wives sections in mens and adult lifestyle magazines where images could be submitted but thats less likely to happen with stricter controls on publication nowadays. Mainly for concerns with age. This is a very serious problem and anyone who gets into the adult business would do well to observe the rules with 2257 regulations It also helps to understand data privacy so you are not in violation of laws leading to civil liberty infringements
Where do producers go to learn all this information?
The information is out there on the internet if you know what you are looking for but I doubt many look into these things before they jump into it head first which is why revenge porn cases have doubled in recent years. It helps to be part of an association like UKAP which is to my knowledge the only association of its kind in the UK to deal with producers interests and production issues. UKAP has a membership spanning  services, legal, health, web design and tech. Producing is such a broad term now that models are providing their own clips to online platforms so models are producers too. We've seen a rise in performers joining and attending meetings.
Where else are you going to get all this information from people with a combined wealth of experience?
Why do you think this problem is increasing?
Like a lot of things where new technology is concerned, people simply dont know. In an age where they can access all kinds of entertainment for free, the illusion is, if its there, why not use it? Not many people think about the legaities and its probably why those who were convicted didnt see  the problem when it was not legally recognised as such
Whats the least that could happen to a first time offender?
A warning. A suspension or ban for mild offences. In more extreme cases you could wake up to find a couple of police officers at your door with a warrant for your arrest. People are getting that for hate speeches on twitter so why not for revenge porn?
Whats the deal with celebrity phone hacks and leaks online?
