About Those Porn Awards

It has come to our attention that certain luminaries have stated their dislike for awards on social media with" awards are a waste of time and  do nothing" for them  (while going on to say they have won another award that is more significant ) We respect they are entitled to their opinions but then, we at UKAP are also entitled to respond if only to inform those who do not know how awards work. Thank you for giving us this platform to reply. We wouldnt be answering this if it wasnt for you :-)
For the purpose of this article we shall focus specifically on the UKAP Awards because it was the most recent event and most likely what their criticism was aimed at given the timing of the event.
To the models who say they have never been nominated and snub awards on social media who say they only care about their fans: It was most likely an your fans that nominated you in the first place. What you are telling them is to not vote or nominate you. That's ok if that is what you want. Your fans will agree with you and simply not waste their time voting for you when they could vote for someone else competing against you and illicit a friendly response like "Thanks for voting for me".  Lack of engagement with fans means lack of votes. Its that simple.
Asking to be voted for is not begging. Asking to be voted for is making your fans aware that voting is open. How else are they going to know if they're not told or know what is going on with industry news or events. It's the same as asking people to follow you, buy your items, join your Snap Chat, buy your single,  your Amazon wish list etc ...If asking for votes is begging then maybe you need to check whether you are begging everyday when you ask them to see you on your cam chat show or when your waving your mobiles waiting for those calls
The UKAP Awards is a producer and adult industry services led award to recognise new and established talent that often gets ignored by more commercial brands and the uKAP Awards has raised the profile within the industry community for 12 years since we were UKAFTA whether directly or indirectly we will chalk both up to a win and say check Wiki
Models do themselves no favours ridiculing these events as it potentially puts producers off them with concerns they  are hard work to work with. We appreciate the best talent sometimes are but most producers want an easy day and may judge you on your social media posts if it is brought to their attention. If you dont care then dont expect anyone to care about you but we both know that you care deeply or you wouldnt spend time after time coming back to the subject of the awards to make yourself feel better for being excluded. Who knows, if you engage with your followers you might actually win
About that awards fixing.

It's the UKAP Awards. It's up to us who we give our awards to. If you've won it then you've earned it. Its that simple. The decision for you to win is based on a variety of members opinions and votes. Let the process happen and see the results at the awards. We generally have no idea who is going to win until we get into that room and discuss the merits of those who made the shortlist. More often than not we are surprised about some of the conclusions reached. You don't even have to like UKAP to win an award as clearly one of our biggest critics has demonstrated recently. UKAP has a high regard for this individual who claims we are irrelevant and a waste of time (Ouch! 12 years of history trashed in a tweet - Ed) but was happy to win our award for Best Female Performer in 2015. Can you spot who? :-)
We have a lot of love for our business. We are its biggest fan which is why we started the awards in the first place in 2006.  We have never excluded anyone who didnt request to be excluded from competition which is why self nominating has been a regular fixture in our events. Bringing new talent to the industries attention has given many people over the years their first awards based on voting and discussion with members. This year we had 11 judges and included a membership vote to get the shortlist and the results were made public with a swish event in a prestigious part of Londons West End to the masses who attended.
The UKAP Awards are as valid as any other awards since the association is based on established long serving producers and services based in the UK. Each award is varied and just as relevant as ours.
The UKAP Awards is attended and sponsored by recognised companies, media, and adult industry services who can sponsor a category of have their own category at the event.
Did anyone spot Channel 4 filming at the recent awards? Did anyone know 2 official representatives of AdultWork were there? Did anyone spot several mainstream film makers there to network? There was even a lawyer and accountant should you need one not to mention a lot of new girls looking to make connections for work.
All you have to do to be included is engage with your followers. We tagged all nominees. If you don't engage by retweeting then this is taken as a sign you do not want to be included and you will be left alone. Putting yourself out there let's fans know that you want to be voted and they will do so happily if you want them to.
UKAP as an association remains neutral for  not nominating. Our individual members can nominate who they want which is why we allowed self nominating or producers would stick to who that know and work with. We give awards out on recognition and the Legends of Adult Entertainment because it was raised by members at meetings that people who have been around for years should still be recognised for their achievements that are taken for granted today. So far we have awarded Mary Millington and This year, Mike Freeman
Awards raise profiles and sets those nominated apart from the crowd. The event for one night makes a big deal about its nominees and winners and people across the world are watching! We know they are by the responses from those in the industry from Europe or the USA whether it is complimentary or offensive it is till a response that means we have their attention for better or worse.
To all the winners, ask yourselves this, where were  you before your awards win? Winning awards doesn't raise your rate of pay but it can generate more work. as we've seen over the years. Check out our history and look at the successes of previous winners
"You are not a porn star until you are endorsed by ceremony"

Awards stimulate wider commercial interest and new opportunities and in recent years that work has included stints on major TV shows, feature films, documentaries, panel discussions on film screenings, university debates, radio shows and  more. Where do you think all this starts from?  Before UKAP there was nothing but a fractured industry that is still largely fractured now
Look at the sponsors involved who subsidise these events. They  know how business works and awards events are a hub for creating a community and dealing with issues that make things better for all to do business from, increase standards in health and safeguard the industry from time wasters who are blighting the industry with fake social media. Its really up to you if you want to support us and make us stronger unless you prefer the chaos that comes with a growing business
The UKAP Awards are just as valid as any other recognised  event because it is based on credible foundations with a history recognised by those who see us as a frontline to the UK adult business community. Think about it, who else is there that is outspoken and supportive of adult industry issues?  Who else supports sexual campaigners and authors for sexual freedom and anti censorship?
Above all else, the UKAP Awards is a great night to network and generate new business. If you are not in then you are out. You probably don't even need any of our events but then, why limit your options?
Our next meeting is on Thursday November 9th The same day as the Paul Raymond Awards so if you're around why not join us?
