I've been a content creator for a while now and enjoy the flexibility, earning potential and empowerment the business gives me. I started working in the adult sector initially as a cam performer and this led to other opportunities to make my own productions . In the 7 years or so that I've been working in the industry technology has evolved and new platforms have offered new income streams to tap into. As an independent model i'm free to innovate and adapt with evolution of porn commerce. Many more opportunities are now on the table for alternative or niche models due to the creator led market and the way sales are made direct and through websites that support paywalls for each models archive of clips & pictures. I've seen many new commercial opportunities that are encouraging to aspiring models in this current wave of vibrant variety many of whom are now very successful due to the inclusive and empowering way the industry is now heading .Given the level playing field and vast amounts of fresh talent coming up, I'm often asked by my peers how I sustain an income and keep my content and brand fresh.
When I started it was completely from scratch, having never worked for a professional production company, or with other models. I did struggle to learn how to present myself online to my potential customers. I made a lot of rookie mistakes but learned from them and picked up many tricks of the trade through trial and error. I found that engaging with fellow performers helped enormously. By far the best tip I was given was to ensure I gave "quality" . Quality of content, quality of my interactions and engagements, quality of my impact toward fans, but what supersedes all of this, is the quality of my marketing and reach.
I attempted to build my own branding and learn the skills needed, and did have some success over the first two years but wasn't quite hitting my desired targets. It wasn’t until a chance meeting with an old friend who at the time was working in mainstream media did I realize the impact marketing would really have on my business.
I asked my friend to identify any areas that I could improve on. A few days later I recieved a detailed plan with targeted advice and an offer of help and support. Though his expertise was more mainstream I could see a lot of potential in the techniques he'd suggested. I implemented a few of the tips including how to engage people and use attention grabbing advertising posts that would entice new customers, and whilst it was a slow start before long my brand had started to grow. 6 months in I had generated many more sales and followers and could see that the advice was spot on .There were a few things that didn't work for me but I put this down to the plan being written from the point of someone that was used to marketing documentaries, but the majority of the pointers did generate more traffic and ultimately more income.
Engaging the services of a professional marketing consultant, who is also a mainstream media producer and web designer was an investment. I had no idea of what the services might cost, and whether they would be a viable business expense versus the rewards. I was amazed at not only how affordable it was, but also at the instant response to the rebranded media I was now delivering to my customers. I have a greater presence on social media due to the high impact & instantly recognizable branding of the products created for my marketing campaign, engagement is vastly increased , which is due , in part, to a handy extra beneficial feature of using a marketing company to deliver my posts. This bypasses the unfortunate shadow/search ban on Twitter which was shielding many of my posts from potential customers . I was very impressed at how many more interactions I gained statistically from my new approach. More of an impression, more responses, more engagement, more Retweets ultimately nets me more sales.
I have adverts and trailers that I use with great success on all platforms which gives me an advantage and a more professional luxe image which is aspirational and has had many compliments. In addition I often have models asking me who makes my branding products, which I think speaks for itself.
I intersperse my engagement with posts that convey my character, give an insight into my personality and upload as many "real" selfies & videos as I can to add a flair of who I am. This is, in my opinion, really important, to show part of your real self, and not make every post about sales. Hard sell isn't sexy, in fact its a turn off, many fans will feel alienated if you only present one side of yourself to them. It's about showing your personality and vulnerability too, the likability factor is so important to allow your fans to fall in love with you!
The other noticeable impact from the branding and marketing exercise was the fact many more of my peers wanted to create collaborative projects and network with me and I do feel this is partly due to the positive impression that my marketing products create for me.
Whilst not everyone will have or even want to engage with an outside company to help them with their media content, whats key to remember is to create the best standard of content you can in this harsh economic climate, with such a diverse marketplace you must stand out!!
