Model Demands For Producer To Remove Content From The Internet

The following is an actual letter sent to a producer used as a real world example of a model requesting removal of content  from the internet to facilitate a response as a matter of record for anyone seeking similar advice on the topic
From: ********************
Sent: ** April 2018 *****

Subject: Removal Of Content From Web Sites

Hi (Name withheld)

(Name withheld) here..

I shot with you a few years ago. I am contacting you regarding our content that we shot. I have found MY videos with disgusting and vulgar titles on them featured on hardcore porn sites... I do not shoot porn solo or BG and I do not appreciate being put on the same sites and with also such a vulgar title to my video pretending it’s something more when is not!

You knew my levels when we shot and you have personally violated me, I feel betrayed and disgusted that you would do this!

I want you to remove ALL of my content from every site you have downloaded it to ASAP! And all social media links and content that means the recent video link you posted of me.. I want it GONE NOW!!!!!

If you do not comply you will be hearing from my lawyer, I have all previous messages from our shoot including your address.

(Name withheld)

The above letter is typical of models demanding their content be removed years after they  have left the business behind them and a big problem with models who dont give any thought to what they have signed up for getting into the adult business.

Unfortunately, whatever was made to use on the internet can be exploited for other uses and girls with their own clip sites might find private clips of themselves surfacing on places like tube site who can be cooperative in removing links but the problem with this is, your content could also be uploaded on a variety of similar sites who are not as cooperative. Not because they are being difficult but perhaps they get so many requests to remove content they just prefer not to reply

If you dont want to be seen on the internet doing this kind of content then do not shoot content for anyone, even yourself where it could be used against you.

There really is very little you can do beyond asking people involved to remove content and there is very little they can do to ensure its gone. The problem with downloadable content on the internet is not knowing who has it and where in the world so all you'd be doing is playing whack a mole with asking sites to remove content who are not personally obliged to do you any favours.

You might get better luck if you are a genuine case of revenge porn but then proving that can be determined by the kind of content you are asking to be removed as Laura Higgins from Revenge Porn Helpline discussed at a recent UKAP Meeting

Terry Stephens of Real Couples had this to say:

"Having been the recipient of a similar case, I have received a letter from a well known solicitors firm in London that ordered the immediate take down of content or face site closure by midnight. It was alleged that all content on the site was privately made and for personal use. I beat that by providing the signed model releases supported by two forms of government issued ID and the site stayed open even though, technically I was breaking the data protection law in doing so but what else could I do to prove my case otherwise?"

Social media links are easier to deal with, unless someone has copied the image (as they often do) and post it around out of context selling something else ie dating sites, are the most  common perpetrators of this

Legally there is not much that can be done about this problem

New producers would do well to read articles like these and join  associations like UKAP if only to get access to information that can protect from incidents like this occurring to you as well as a resource for networking with a community of people who understand  and are less likely to bring this problem on your business.

The source of most producer woes comes from content sharing and TFP (Time For Prints).  The big problem we are all up against with new models is that most come in at a time when they really need the money or think it was a great thing to do at the time until the reality of it all comes crashing in when they have long left university, paid off the student loan and settled into a job when someone slips them a knowing look that they have seen them on the internet

If you have a signed model release (correctly worded) dated with rights of ownership to sell in perpetuity supported by two forms of government issued ID then you are legally protected from potential legal action which is becoming an increasing problem these days with anyone with a mobile phone and internet access to upload to tube and clip sites

To aggrieved, there are alternative approaches to consider, such as the RTBF (Right to be forgotten which you can read about here which is more about removing you from search results on internet search engines. This is not a one size fits all solution but its important to remember that if your content has been downloaded then someone somewhere in the world has it on their hard drive, then it can be accessed or uploaded at any time without you knowing about it. Under the RTBF it may make your search for it harder but if that gives you peace of mind then why not use it?
